The wireless medium appears to be a panacea for overcoming infrastructure problems delivering Internet access to the masses. It promises good bandwidth, reasonable geographic coverage, and fast customer installation lead-time. This talk will look at ISP cases of implementing wireless Internet access using 2.4GHz technology. The pros and cons will be explored on topics such as tower location and rights, practical coverage, reliability, security, scalability, and realistic performance. This talk is intended for those considering implementation of a wireless network in a metropolitan area. Barb Dijker is co-owner of NeTrack, a Colorado USA ISP, and the Executive Director of the Colorado Internet Cooperative Association, a regional Internet wholesaler. She's been a system administrator for about 12 years and is currently president of SAGE in the US.
