A2000 is the local cable operator in Amsterdam, Zaanstad, Purmerend and Hilversum. Having around 600.000 cable tv subscribers, A2000 has decided to provide Internet for the consumer market. This Internet product was launched in october '97. The entire roll-out will take until early '99. The network architecture has been scaled for 10% markt penetration.

To give an idea how good this network is, we will go over every part of the network; from cable modem to hub site to the main headend and how we are connected to the outside world. After that it's time to look at our basic ISP services, what we currently use and he we are planning on scaling for the future. Provisioning is the main issue here. Databases, DHCP, LDAP and dynamic DNS will play a big part in this.

Finally we will cover basic monitoring of the network and services. How and what we monitor now and how we want it in the future.

Mourad Veeneman studied Mathematical Engineering at Delft University of Technology and is currently working as network engineer at A2000 Cable Television and Telecommunication in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
